Roadworthiness test, insurance, road tax: never miss a renewal again
A missed renewal is rarely cheap: a fine, a vehicle off the road, insurance that no longer covers you. Here is how to stop relying on memory.
In a small fleet, renewal dates hide everywhere: the roadworthiness test date sits on a certificate in the glovebox, the insurance date in a renewal email, the road tax in a drawer. With one vehicle, memory is enough. With three, it is not.
Why we forget
It is not a discipline problem. Renewals come round at different rhythms — some on fixed dates, others by mileage — and they change when a vehicle changes hands or category. A spreadsheet has to be updated by hand, which is exactly the step that gets skipped in a busy week.
Start from the documents, not a list
The first registration date and the vehicle type determine most regulatory renewals. Starting from the registration document rather than a hand-typed list avoids copying mistakes, and lets dates be recalculated automatically when the rules change.
Be warned early, then closer and closer
A reminder the day before is useless: you need time to book an appointment or compare insurers. A good rhythm is to be warned well ahead, then again as the date approaches.
- Sixty days ahead: time to get organised
- Thirty days ahead: book the appointment
- Seven days ahead: the final alert
What Odolia does
Odolia reads the registration document, works out the renewals using your country’s rules and warns you at sixty, thirty and seven days. You no longer keep a list: you get the alert at the right moment.
