Why people give up on tracking their vehicles
For the first few days, you log everything. Three weeks later, nothing. It is not a lack of willpower: it is the typing.
Almost everyone has tried: a notebook in the glovebox, a spreadsheet, an app. The first fill-ups are logged carefully. Then one day you forget, you tell yourself you will catch up tonight, and the tracking stops.
The real cost of a line to type
Logging a fill-up means opening the app, choosing the vehicle, typing the mileage, the volume, the amount, the date. A minute, no more. But a minute standing at the pump, in the rain or with a customer waiting, is one minute too many.
Incomplete tracking is useless
A history full of gaps gives the wrong consumption and underestimated costs. So you stop looking at it, then stop filling it in: the circle is complete.
Remove the typing, don’t prettify it
The answer is not a more elegant form, but no form at all: photograph the receipt, the invoice or the registration document and let the app fill in the rest. The mileage can be pre-filled from the last reading, the vehicle guessed from the history.
- One photo instead of five fields
- You check, you confirm
- Tracking stays complete, so it stays useful
That is Odolia’s principle: remove the typing, so tracking lasts.
